Who we are

packets.lol is a two-person network automation project built in public.

We are a network engineer and a data analyst — a couple — who decided that the best way to learn product engineering is to build something real, share everything, and let the community hold us accountable.

The team

Network automation engineer

Background in network engineering. Building the infrastructure layer — containerlab topologies, CI/CD pipelines, MCP server, automation tooling. Responsible for every lab you can deploy from this site.

Network data analyst

Background in data analytics (Power BI, Tableau, SQL). Now working in network telemetry and AI evaluation. Building the data intelligence layer — Grafana dashboards, telemetry pipelines, resource calculator, and LLM evaluation for AI-driven network ops.

What we build

Every episode in the containerlab series produces three things:

  • A validated lab — topology file, configs, CI-tested, free to use
  • A blog post — the technical walkthrough
  • A data view — what the lab looks like in metrics and dashboards

We believe network automation content should show the full picture, not just the CLI output.

The stack

Everything we build runs on our own server:

  • Containerlab — network topology orchestration
  • Forgejo — self-hosted Git and CI/CD
  • Prometheus + Grafana — telemetry and dashboards
  • Hugo — this blog
  • Cloudflare Pages — hosting
  • MCP server — AI-controlled lab operations via Claude Desktop

All source code is open.
